In this article, a middle school principal shares how he used data to make improvements in student achievement. By engaging in the repeated cycle of collect, analyzing, and using data, he believes that principals remain focused on identifying areas of need and leading targeted change in classrooms. He argues that it is the role of the principal to not only lead through the use of data, but to also cultivate a shared commitment to using data among all stakeholders in the school.
